Do you decorate your Christmas tree with a theme in mind?
Leave your answer in the comment section below.

Giveaway will close December 17th at midnight.

GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED.

Good luck!

PS: So, my tree has no decorations left on it! My two year old would not leave the ornaments alone and the bottom half the tree was completely bare after about a week.  So we left the tree up but took off all the ornaments.  I am hoping next year will be the year that the kids will leave the ornaments alone! :)

Oh, and I don't have a theme--it's just a hodge-podge of different ornaments that I have bought or were given to me.  I want to have a theme Christmas tree--I just need to figure out what and start collecting ornaments! :)

The only theme our tree has is that all of the baubles are different. The have been collected over the years from holidays abroad, and I am also given a new one every year from my parents, a tradition my nanna started.

We use red and gold colours, it also includes ornaments collected each year by our children as they were growing up.

I love a "sparkle" snowflake theme and lean toward blues and silver most years.

No theme for our tree, just a big collection of ornaments, many of them handmade and several of them passed down through a couple of generations of my mom's family. They do reflect certain themes or interests we've had over the years (lots of fishing ornaments for my husband the fly fisherman, several ice skating decorations because I was a figure skater as a kid, lots and lots of dog ornaments because we have three dogs, etc.). While I admire beautiful themed trees, I'd rather have a unique mix of personal decorations like we have because they hold so many great memories. Thanks for the giveaway!

No, we don't decorate with a theme in mind. We have a hodgepodge kind of tree and I personally like it that way :) Magistra13 at yahoo dot com

If I put up a tree it would have a theme...probably a color scheme like all red ornaments, lights and garland.

When I was growing up we had so many ornaments that we would chose the ones we were going to use based on a theme. Now that I am an adult I generally stick to a color scheme.

I don't have a theme, but this year I have a color. Every ornament is red and the garland is too. Thanks!

I don't have a theme, usually it is a good mixture of ornaments, from things made by the kids at school, to classy, fancy ones.

I don't have a theme for my Christmas tree. Most of my ornaments are red/white, but I don't stick to just those colors. Thanks.

Betsy said...

Lindsey, I use it all. I spare no ornament or pick. It goes on the tree. No theme, no reason, just fun. Mind you, it us 12 foot so it can take a lot of ornaments

Lisa England said...

My tree is a hodgepodge of ornaments bought or made over the years. So I guess you could say the theme is "Memories".

Tammy said...

My theme is aqua color and birds & butterfly ornaments....

Amy said...

Our tree is loaded with ornaments we have collected over the years or have been gifted. Each one has special meaning.

Unknown said...

Each year since my children were born I have bought them an ornament for our tree. So no theme for us, just lots of memories of things they grew up with!

Marjorie's Busy Corner said...

I do in a way...one year I decorate with older red and white traditional...then another year, do blue silver and white more modern.

Stitchin At Home said...

Our tree has a mix. The first ornaments hung are the first ones we bought when we got we got married 37 years ago. The rest are some I made or bought over the years.

Kate said...

No theme for our Christmas tree - each decoration has a memory attached such as birth of a grandchild, hand me downs from parents, etc. :)

Jeanie said...

Once in a while, I have a theme.... like all animal ornaments....but it's usually a mix of everything. Thanks so much!

gpc said...

I don't use a theme, unless "family" counts, because my ornaments are mostly hand me downs from my mother and my childhood tree, and ornaments from when my kids were small. I use very few of them these days since now I only have a tabletop tree. I add an ornament or two each year, too, from friends who make them for me from time to time. Like my house, just a jumble of styles and colors. :)

Nancy L said...

No, I don't decorate with a theme in mind. I just use what I have. Most bring back memories from Christmas past, so I guess you could call it nostalgia.

Jennifer Price said...

I have a few trees one of which I put all the kids ha made decorations. I started this when the kids were little because they wanted to decorate the tree and having them decorate the big tree with its breakable ornaments wasn't a good idea.

annemarie said...

Our tree is a mixture of everything - old and new - mostly old ornaments with lots of memories.

cdorfsmith said...

I don't decorate with a theme in mind. I have ornaments from all of our past Christmases. Every year I add an ornament or two.

Lee Ann L. said...

No theme. Just a hodgepodge of ornaments collected throughout the years. In fact, this year, we did not decorate on account of Abby Gail (cat) first Christmas and we were not sure how she would treat the tree. It is currently a Christmas card holding (display) station. :-)

Snow said...

No, my family doesn't do a theme. We have lots of ornaments that mean different things to us: memories of places visited, family members no longer with us, stuff like that. We're nerds, so we also have lots of silly ornaments, stuff like the Starship Enterprise!

bjiwami54@gmail.com said...

My only theme is "Christmases Past". Bits and pieces of memories from my kids growing up...even the "Biker Barbie" the kids gave me from when I was riding my Harley!

Someday when the kids are older, I'd love to do a theme. Righ now it's a mix of ornaments from my husband's childhood and ornaments we've gotten as a family over the past eight years.
His mom gave him a new ornament every single year, then gave them to us when we got married. I wish my mom had thought of that... My mom always did themed trees. ;)

We bought an extra prickly tree last year in hopes of keeping our almost 2 year old out of it, but I think I was the one who suffered the most ouchies trying to string the lights! When my oldest was little we hung bells as an "alarm system" on the lower branches- mostly they ended up all over the place as musical instruments instead! We don't have a theme tree- though they look lovely, I can't ever imagine not using our collection of mis matched ornaments. Thanks! Sarah: crjandsbj(at)netzero(dot)com

It's used to be all homemade, but over the summer I bought a white tree at a yard sale, always liked how it looked, so I decorated it with bright pink, green, aqua, purple and red ornaments and I love it as it is very different style for me.

Marianne said...

Naw, just an eclectic mix gathered over the years. Theme trees look pretty but I prefer my "scrappy" one!

Kylie MJ said...

No--it's usually just a mix. I tried to convince the kids to get several small trees that would each have their own theme. No go.

Jen said...

No theme, just family ornaments that my parents & grandparents have and whatever new catches my eye :)

Susan said...

I don't have a theme - just a mixture of ornaments from over the years. Due to a flash flood years ago, I lost quite a few of our sentimental ornaments and handmade (by my mother-in-law!) Christmas stockings. So now the only sentimental ones I have are from more recent trips my husband and I have taken, but we're building it back up again!

KathleenD said...

I have done theme trees in the past - and they were lovely. Now that we're well and truly seniors and there are are no little ones around, I've just been decorating with a tree wall-hanging and tiny fabric or beaded ornaments.

SonjaLoyd said...

Yes I do a theme every year,This year is Silver and Red,with big bulbs and White lights.I use pine cones and berries for alternating decorations for the tree, and out side is done the same way, with the exception of Fresh Green pine branches on the bottom of the windows and Wrapped around the step railing at the front door and Garage door.As the kids are older now ,their decorations are on a small tree in the Dining room, that is our tree forever! Now my granddaughter fills it every year with her handmade decorations from school! This is one of our family traditions.

Ellee said...

I've always liked the old-fashioned glass balls in an assortment of colors and sizes. Then add some silver foil icicles. Oh, and the tiny multi-color mini lights, too. I keep it simple. So pretty! -- soparkaveataoldotcom

Alla said...

No, I do not decorate Christmas tree with a theme. Makes no sense for us! Because we have some unique Christmas ornaments from old times, some my hand made and some ornaments from dear friends. They all together on Christmas tree are as a family tradition.

Rosa said...

No theme, a mix of christmas decor and all the xmas cards I`ve received.

Rochelle aka Bella Quilts said...

Hi, My theme has always been whatever I have and usually homemade or specially given ornaments. When I put them up each year they bring back fond memories of Christmases past) and faces of the people involved. It's the best time of year. When my daughter was small, we put the Christmas tree in the playpen (she hardly ever used the playpen because she cried so much from frustration at being penned in!!). It worked well to keep the ornaments on the tree.

Kristin said...

That gray charm pack, I like it.
I have done theme trees in the past, but they leave me feeling like there's something missing. I much prefer to just add ornaments that I like until it looks good. And I like how the ornaments bring back memories.
This year our tree is just lighted garland hung in front of a door we don't use, and I hung ornaments from it. Not a tree, but it works!

Karen in Breezy Point said...

I used to have a cat that would knock all the ornaments off the bottom 2 feet of our tree. I don't think I have a true theme--I have lots of Santa ornaments and vintage looking glass ornaments. And of course, lots of ornaments that my kids have made. I like trees that have lots of memories!

Mary Ann said...

I don't put up a tree as go to Seattle,WA every year for the holidays to spend with daughter and family.

Unknown said...

No themed tree decorating. My dad would put an Angel or a star on the top. He preferred the Angel, so there was always some debate about what would wind up at the top at every year. the lights and the ornaments were always the same, but grew over the years. There were vintage ones from my grandparents and maybe their parents. Then new ones came along or were made us when we were kids, so the collection kept on growing and growing.

Ramona said...

My tree has no theme but lots of memories. Every year as I was growing up, my mom gave me ornaments so they are on the tree and I did that with my 4 kids and all their ornaments are on the tree as well as other ones the kids made or were given to us. I love the look and all the stories involved with each one

Barb said...

No theme, I just like it to be a bit "decorator" influenced, so I check out a local shop and get ideas from the designer. Fun to change it up a bit every few years. Thanks for the give away.

Amy DeCesare said...

No theme for us. We use the clear twinkle lights, and we hang as many of our old favorite ornaments as possible. We have some that are over 60 years old {older than my husband} and they are among our most treasured.

Anonymous said...

No theme for us. We hang whatever we have on the tree. A few times we tried doing just one type of ornament or a theme, but we didn't like it as much, so we went back to the eclectic theme.

✾Jamie Lee Cooley✾ said...

No, no theme. I have 3 little kids so that wouldn't work. They also "stickerbombed" all the presents I wrapped and put under the tree. My standards are different these days:)

Kelly Wilson said...

We use a large vintage silver tree made out of aluminum. It turns in its stand so we don't add lights or ornaments. The accompanying color wheel is the only decoration. Even our smaller trees on various surfaces are ornament free (and soon would be if we even tried - 4 kitties).

Kathy E. said...

No, we don't decorate the tree with any given theme, but it's always beautiful!

Cheri the Quilting Nanny said...

My theme is memories. I have not bought new ornaments in YEARS. Some are handmade by the kids or me others were special ones given to them/us for certain reasons or because of a certain "favorite" My son loved Nutcracker so I have a few of thise, my daughter loved My LIttle POny so I have a few of that, etc. And of course every ornament they made in elementary schooll... is on the tree!

While our tree doesn't have a theme; it does have a tradition. Like many families our tree is filled with ornaments made and collected over the years. Decorating and enjoying it during the holidays gives us a chance to look back and remember.

This is the very first year, in over 30 plus years of marriage, that we've had a themed tree. It is themed to match a peacock glass plate we bought last year. It's teals to light green, plus I added silver to lighten up the tree. I put glittered peacock feathers in the tree, and lot of blue, green and silver foliage. Do I like it? I'm not sure yet. cdahlgren at live dot com

My ornaments are mostly handmade and a lot are from my quilting friends. My tree has a country, handmade look and I like multi-coloured lights.

Just a hodge podge mixture....lots with memories from throughout the years.

Rina Mason said...

It depends on which tree I use. If it's the green one then it's decorated with ornaments collected over the last 50 years. If it's the white one or the silver pom pom one then it's themed. This year I didn't put one up because I have two kittens and I didn't want to spend half my time picking up ornaments.

Unknown said...

I like to choose a colour and decorate to that theme. One year it could be gold, another red, another silver.

Debbie said...

The only theme I have when decorating my Christmas tree is "memories." Every ornament except the balls has a shared family memory. Some are handmade by our children and grandchildren, some were purchased while on family vacations and others have been purchased in memory of our son who died 10 years ago.

Jan said...

No theme - just a mishmash of kid-made or family-collected. It always looks beautiful to us. Mmthanks for the nice giveaway.

No, my tree is decorated eclictic--homemade, most of it--and everything from vintage ornaments I had in my childhood, to new ones I've made recently.

Carrie P. said...

Yes. I do decorate with a theme. This year I decorated with vintage glass ornaments that I have collected.

Trisch said...

I do not have a themed tree. Unless of course putting all the ornaments you have collected over the last 33 years of marriage is called a theme!!! Many ornaments have bit the dust and some have been out grown or passed on to others. Thanks for the giveaway.

BLINGATUDE said...

Do you decorate your Christmas tree with a theme in mind? one year we had only green lights available and voila that became a recurring theme.

Sarah said...

I laughed when I read that you just took all the ornaments off the tree! When my kids were that age, we did without the tree and just strung the ornaments on garland above the windows. When I was a baby, Mom made stuffed toy ornaments, and yes, half the time in the pictures they are all over the floor and not on the tree. :) I guess our theme would be Travel. Our family gets one ornament every year, and we usually pick it when we go somewhere., representative of that location. This year we went to Alaska so we have a moose ornament for the year. I love that my kids are old enough to remember now, and talk about where we were and what we did when they look at the ornaments. sarah@forrussia.org

I used to collect ornaments but the husband didn't care about the ornaments I'd saved -- he preferred colored glass balls and hated the tinsel that I had grown up with. So, now I don't do any of the tree decorating myself. The kids put what they want on there, it's mostly colored glass balls and a few ornaments that they made when they were in elementary school. Nope, no theme. Maybe I should put up another tree of my very own! :)
