Milk Cow Kitchen Tote

Hi there!  I want to thank you all for your kind comments about the apron I shared yesterday! Today I am going to show you another project featuring the Milk Cow Kitchen fabric.  When I saw this patchwork fabric, I knew I had to make it into a tote.  I have always wanted to make a patchwork tote, but I didn't really want to actually do the patchwork!  So this lovely print, has done all the work for me!

This bag is a great market tote! Perfect to take to your local farmers market and place all your purchases in this roomy tote!

This is as simple as it gets when sewing a basic tote.  It comes together quickly, and is perfect for a beginner!  I decided to dress my tote up a tad, I added a fun little gathered pocket.  I thought this pocket would be perfect to place your keys, or phone so you don't have to go digging for it in the huge interior!  If you don't want to add the pocket, it would be just as lovely, and it will come together even faster!

So what do ya say, let's make this tote!

Gathered Apron Tutorial

Hi there! I hope you all had a great weekend!  I spent the weekend sewing with this beautiful Milk Cow Kitchen fabric! You guys, this fabric is gorgeous in person!  I had so much fun sewing with this beautiful fabric.  I have made three different projects with the Milk Cow Kitchen fabric and will be sharing them all week long with you guys!

Today I am sharing this fun Gathered Apron tutorial!  If you are a beginner (like me) when it comes to garment sewing, this is a pretty easy project to start with!

This apron is reversible, and it also has a fun pleated pocket on one side.  If you wanted to keep this apron even more simple, you could leave the pocket off entirely, and you could whip this apron up in no time!

Aren't those cows just the cutest?

I had a lot of fun sewing up this apron, and now I proudly have it hanging in my kitchen! I love how it turned out and I can't wait to start using it! :)

Now let me show you how I made this!

Miss Kate Tea Towels

Hi there! We have a new tea towel kit in the shop featuring Bonnie and Camille's recent line "Miss Kate."  The prints we coordinated together for these towels have a cute autumn vibe going on, without it screaming "fall!"  I love the color combination in these--especially the navy floral print with the orange! They just compliment each other so well.

Christmas Pillow Tutorial {Guest Post}

Hi there! Today, Kim from Charm and Whimsy is stopping by to share this lovely pillow tutorial! Be sure to stop by Kim's blog to see all of her lovely quilts!

I'm thrilled and excited to be featured here today, on the Fort Worth Fabric Studio blog page. Thanks to both Jodie and Lindsey for having me here. Even though I reside in Canada....a long, long way from Texas, I order most of my quilting fabric from FWFS. I've come to love the service I always get, the fabulous quality of fabrics that arrive in my mailbox and regular Friday email featuring new fabrics and sale bundles. What could be better? I'm a freelance quilt designer and writer - my work can be found here and on my pinterest page. Visit my website and sign up for regular quilt-related emails. So.....speaking of fabric and bundles, here is what arrived in my mailbox a short time ago!

From that fabulous festive bundle of fat quarters, my Christmas pillow was born.

Arrows Aweigh {Boy Quilt}

Hi there! I have a fun, quick quilt to show you guys today! About two weeks ago, I was asked by a friend to make twin baby boy quilts for her new nephews! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make these quilts, so I thought I'd share them with you!

This pattern is SO simple, and easy.  It comes together quickly, and can easily be made bigger by adding more blocks.  You could also make the blocks bigger, if you wanted to make a larger quilt.

I was told that the twin's room was done in navy and gray, and so I had fun picking out some awesome navy and gray prints.  I wanted these quilts to be boyish, without being "babyish" if that makes any sense.  I thought I really achieved that with the simple and clean lines of this pattern.

Finished Quilt Size 36" x 36"

My friend and I had decided it would be a good idea to have something to make each one different, so they could tell which quilt belonged to which boy.  We thought it would be fun to make the backings different.  I quilted both quilts with organic wavy lines.  It gave the quilt a nice texture, but kept the overall quilt simple.

I hope you enjoyed this fun and simple quilt pattern!

Autumn Blessings Stitchable

Hi there! I am pretty excited about this project I am sharing with you today.  As you know I have been on an embroidery kick lately.  I have found that I really enjoy it and it is something that I find relaxing.

Since we moved into our new home, I have been on a decorating binge lately.  I have wanted to make some new things to decorate our new home.  Since we are headed into Fall, I really wanted something special to put on my entry table.  So I came up with this embroidery design:

I love how it turned out.  So festive, yet simple.  I love the way it compliments my entry table and all of my other decorations on my table.

I used linen for the background fabric.  Which I absolutely adore for this project.  It really compliments the rich autumn colors of the floss I used.

This is a simple embroidery pattern that would be great for a beginner! The pattern is very simple and uses just a few different stitches.  You could also make this into several different things.  I decided to frame mine, but you could easily make this into a pillow or a simple table topper.  Instead of using a frame for this, you could use an embroidery hoop as a frame and hang it on your wall.  Whatever you decide, it will look lovely!

Linen and all floss colors to complete the stitchable.  Also included is a printed pattern.

**PRE-ORDER - Kits will be available early October 2014. Pre-order to reserve your kit.    We are waiting on floss colors to come back in stock & will ship as soon as they arrive (will ship sooner if possible!).  There will be no charge until we ship to you. Quantity "in stock" is the number of kits available for pre-order.**

Pumpkin Patch Block Tutorial

Hi there! I hope you all had a good weekend! We had a busy weekend with my oldest daughter's birthday and I spent a lot of time on some upcoming projects!

I have been busy making fall decorations for our home.  I love decorating for Autumn!  I have quite a few decorations for Halloween, but not a ton for specifically fall.  So I decided I needed to make a little something for our kitchen to celebrate fall!

I designed this Pumpkin Patch Block and thought it was perfect for a fun little table topper!

This was a really easy block to put together, and I really enjoyed making it.   It's a great scrap-buster project!  If you have orange scraps in your scrap bins--this would the perfect project to use those up.  I used a variety of orange prints, light and dark to give the pumpkin lots of scrappiness!

I quilted the pumpkin with 1/4" lines--I just followed the shape of the pumpkin.  I did the same with the stem.  For the cream, I just did a small loopy-loop pattern.  I also used all my scraps to do a scrappy binding!

Alright, let's make this block!

Take one set of your squares and place them right sides together. Lining up all the edges.  Pin into place. (Diagram 1)

Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner. (Diagram 2)

Sew a 1/4 seam on either side of your drawn line and then using a ruler and rotary cutter, cut along your drawn line.  (Diagram 3)

You now have to pieces, Press them open and then trim them to 3.5" square. (Diagram 4)

Place your half square triangles in the pattern you see in Diagram 5.

Sew your blocks into rows first.  You will have four rows. Press your rows.  (Diagram 6)

Now sew your rows together.  Press your block.  Block should measure 12.5" x 12.5" at this point. (Diagram 7)

Making the stem of the pumpkin.

Take the brown 3.5" x 4" piece and a 4" x 5" piece of cream and lay them right sides together as shown in Diagram 8.  And sew a seam a 1/4" from the top of the cream fabric.

Open up sewed piece, trim off excess cream, using the brown piece underneath as a template.  Then trim off the excess brown. You should now have your stem (Diagram 9)

Take a 4" x 5" cream piece and place right sides together with your stem piece.  Then add the other 4" x 5" cream piece and sew to the opposite side.  You will now have your stem row.

Sew your stem strip on the top and the  2.5" x 12.5" strip on the bottom. Diagram 12

Sew your left and right 16.5" x 2.5" strips on.

Press your block.

That's it! You're done!

Now you can do whatever you please with your block! You can make it into a table topper (which is what I decided to do.  You could make it into a pillow, you could make a few of these pumpkins and even make a table runner! Your options are endless with this fun little block!

You could even make the pumpkin smaller or larger, just by making your half square triangles bigger or smaller.  You can really change this up to fit your style! :)

I have put this table topper on my kitchen table, and it looks so festive for fall!  Now I'm off to make some more fall decorations!

Talk to you soon,

6-Pocket Tote Tutorial

Hi there! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

We've had a bit of a quiet week so far on the blog, but that's because I've been getting this lovely tote pattern and kit ready for you guys!

I am super excited about this tote.  I love bags, and I have a bag for pretty much everything.  I have my purse, I have a church bag, I have a bag for my crocheting, I have a bag for my embroidery, a swimming bag,  a makeup bag, and the list goes on and on! I don't think a girl can have too many bags!

When I was thinking about this pattern, I wanted to make a really functional bag.  I wanted something that had plenty of pockets in the front for easy access. I also wanted it to be a good sized, not too big, but large enough that I could fit plenty of things in!

So here it is, my Six Pocket Tote:
Click HERE to purchase the 6 Pocket Tote Kit - sold out

I am pretty smitten with how it turned out.  It is so girly, with the paris fabrics and the pink polka dots! I love the functionality of it and love the size.  It is perfect to fit my three-ring binder in and also my planner.  And with all the pocket space, I can put my keys, phone, and any other small things I need to have access to easily!

The handles are a nice size, but you can definitely adjust these to make them shorter if you prefer shorter handles.  I prefer my handles a bit longer so that it fits comfortably over my shoulder.

The lining in this bag is absolutely one of my favorite script fabrics! It really compliments the exterior fabrics.

Alright let's get started!
