Candy Corn Pinwheels Pillow

Hi there! I hope you all had a good weekend! I have a fun pillow to share with you today!  A few weeks back, I had a hankering to make some pinwheels! The pinwheel is probably my favorite block...there is just something to pinwheels! I am drawn to them over and over again!

I had a bunch of yellow and orange prints on my cutting table for another project, and I thought some orange and yellow pinwheels would be a perfect combination for a Fall project!

I had a little bit of this gray gingham just ready to be used -- and so I decided it would compliment those yellows and oranges quite well! When I finished piecing this cute little pillow, it reminded me of candy corns! I decided to quilt my pillow top, to give it an extra dimension -- and I'm glad I did! I really love how it turned out!

To make this pillow you will need:

5 - 5" squares of orange prints
4 - 5" squares of yellow prints
9 - 5" squares of background
1/4 yard of border fabric -
      sub-cut into 2 - 2" x 19.25" strips
                        2 - 2" x 16.25" strips
1 - 18" pillow form

Coordinating thread

Step 1: Take 1- 5" background piece and 1-  5" print and place them right sides together.  Sew around the entire perimeter with a 1/4" seam.  Then cut in quarters diagonally.  Press open.  You should have 4 - half square triangles.

Step 2: Sew your half square triangles into the pinwheel block. Make 4 Yellow Pinwheel blocks and 5 Orange pinwheel blocks.  Pinwheel will measure 5 3/4"
Step 3: Sew your pinwheels into rows of three:

Step 4: Sew your rows together:
Step 5: Add the border.  Take your two 16.25" strips and sew them onto the left and right side.  Then take your two 19.25" strips and sew them onto the top and bottom.

Step 6: Make into a pillow - use my pillow cover tutorial HERE!

And that's it! :) If you decide to make one - please use the hashtag #sewingwithfwfabricstudio on Instagram! :)

Talk to you soon!
