I guess I need tips on FMQ on home machines, especially tensions. Thanks for the giveaway..... the fabrics are beautiful!

FMQ feathers! I'm not really afraid to try, I actually have tried. But until I spend time practicing they are just too intimidating to do on an actual quilt.

barbara woods said...

applique , need some help with that

Katie said...

long arming -- I'm only afraid to try because I know I won't be getting one for my home

Cal said...

What am I not afraid of?
I feel that when I first started sewing I was more adventurous, because I knew so little. Now I know more, at least in theory, but I am so much more afraid of messing up. Sewing wise, collars on a button down shirt are hard for me and I need to learn how to do them properly. I dont think I have sucessfully managed to make one. Quilting wise, triangles scare me, so I avoid them always!

Teresa S. said...

Paper piecing. I've done it once, in a class for a sampler quilt, but I just didn't get it. I need someone to hold my hand!

Sandra said...

Free motion quilting. Logically I know I just have to do it and with practice it should work. But the fear of messing up a quilt while learning is intimidating.

KMSC said...

I'm not necessarily afraid of any quilting techniques (snakes and heights, yes) but I would really love to be able to FMQ with some skill. However, I blame my lack of skill on my old sewing machine. If I bought a new machine, I'm sure I would instantly become Angela Walters or Judi Madsen!

Sarah said...

Oh, like so many commenters, I'm afraid to try free motion quilting. I even signed up for a Craftsy class to learn it, but so far, I just can't make myself try it on a real project and it feels wasteful to try quilting in something that's not going to end up being used.

I am fascinated by quilts that are quilted first and then colored - sometimes with inks, sometimes with paints - and I'd like to try that. I'm a klutz usually, though, and I'm afraid to mess up the already-quilted item. :)

Free motion quilting on my home machine . . . I know my machine is capable, it's just me that's reluctant. I'd also like to learn how to use my serger that I found at an estate sale for $10!! And I think it's never been used!

I love the patterns with curves but don't know if I have the patience. I vividly remember setting in too many sleeves in clothing projects years ago that made me rip out seams because of puckers.

Sewing bags is addicting, watch out! I have some drunkards path pieces cut out, just haven't sewn them together, so fear of curves would be good, especially since I hate pinning things. I also really really need to work on my FMQ skills or lack of.
