Daysail Mini

Hi there, my name is Nettie, and I am Lindsey's mom! I test most of Lindsey's pattern's that she develops, and I also sew up a lot of the FWFS samples.  I was thrilled when Lindsey asked me if I would like to design a mini quilt for the blog! So here it is:

 I used Bonnie and Camille's Daysail for the quilt, and I love how it turned out.  I love this fabric line and the way the prints all blend so well!

Alright, lets get started!

Fabric Requirements:

Background fabric 3/8 yard

Blue Fabric (including sashing) 3/8 yard

Red Script fabric (cornerstones) 1/8 yard

White floral fabric 1/8 yard

Red Floral fabric 1/4 yard

Binding: 1/4 yard (cut into 3 - 2.5" x width of fabric strips)

Backing: 26" x 26" piece of fabric

Cutting: 

From background fabric: 

• 32 - 2.5" squares
• 16 - 2 7/8" squares cut in half diagonally

From blue fabric:

• 16 - 2 7/8" squares cut in half diagonally
• 10 - 1.5" x 10.5" strips (for sashing)

From white floral fabric: 

• 16 - 2.5" squares

From red floral fabric: 

• 20 - 2.5" squares

From Red scrip fabric (cornerstones)

• 9 - 1.5" squares

Block Assembly:

Block Layout

Step 1: Make your half square triangles.  You will need to make 32 half square triangles for this mini:
Take one background triangle and one blue triangle and place them right sides together and sew along the long side.  Press open. Make 32:

Step 2: Layout you block:

Step 3: Sew your pieces into rows, press:

Step 4: Sew your rows together:

Your block should measure 10.5" x 10.5"

Quilt Top Assembly:

Step 5: Sew a sashing strip onto the right side of the top left and bottom left blocks:

Step 6: Then sew your top right block to the other side of sashing, and do the same to the bottom right block.

Step 7: Sew a sashing strip together with one strip, one cornerstone and one strip.   Make three of these strips.

Step 8: Sew the strips in between the two rows, then on the top and bottom.

Step 9: Sew another sashing strip, this time a cornerstone, sashing strip, cornerstone, sashing strip, and another cornerstone.  Make two.

Step 10: Sew one sashing strip onto the left of your quilt top and one onto the right.

Step 11: You are now ready to baste, quilt and bind with your preferred method.
