June Mystery Project 1{30's Dresden Mini}

Hi there! I'm so excited to share the first Mystery Project for June with you today!

Since these prints are 30's prints, I wanted to keep the projects somewhat traditional.  When designing these projects I imagined things that my grandmother or my great-grandmother would have made or used.

For the first project I decided to make a Dresden.  I love love love dresdens.  I really can't get enough of them! They are easier to make than they look, and have a certain "wow" factor!

I imagine this block is something my great-grandmother would have made! When I think about my great-grandmother making this, I imagine her cutting small scraps from old aprons, blouses, and other bits and pieces of fabric she had saved through the years, and carefully piecing it together.  Working on it when she had a moment to spare.  I envision her making several blocks and piecing them into a beautiful and functional quilt.  :)

As much as I would love to make an entire full sized quilt from these lovely little dresdens, I just don't have the time! So instead, I am going to show you how to make this charming mini quilt!! And maybe if you catch the dresden fever, like I have--you'll go on to make an entire full sized quilt! :)

Just a few things about the bundle before you begin:

We have included quite a bit of fabric in this bundle, and so I am not being as specific about which prints to use where.  You can make these your own by choosing which prints to put into your projects...however there are a few pieces that need to be reserved for specific things and I have listed them below:

  • The toweling project (project 3) will require the ric rac included in the bundle.  There are also 4 smaller strips included in the bundle that measure 18" long.  Reserve these for the towels.

  • The large piece of red plaid is used for the backing for the 30's Dresden Mini

  • When cutting the small 2.5" squares for this project, cut from the short edge of your fabric strips---like pictured in the illustration below:
  • For the binding of this project you will use this red print:

  • For the second project you will use this print for the backing:

  • For the second project you will use this print for the binding:

I hope you enjoy making this mini quilt as much as I did!

Talk to you soon,

Can't wait to try the dresden one - have only done this once before and was not a huge success. Hope this one works out. Great to use up scraps.

Thanks for the pattern. I made it as soon as I saw it although mine was made from a 30's playtime layer cake. It was very clearly written and went together like a dream.
