Little Joys Pillow

Hi there! It's my turn for Christmas in July!  I have enjoyed seeing everyone's projects and creativity so far!  :) It's probably no surprise that I would do a pillow!  I love pillows, and I absolutely adore the new Little Joys line by Elea Lutz!

I figured it had been too long since I made anything with pinwheels, so when designing the pillow, I knew it had to have some tiny little pinwheels! :)   Oh, and I added ric-rac!  Ric-rac just gives everything an extra cuteness factor!

I decided to quilt the pillow top, to give it some extra dimension.  I just did some straight line quilting, and stitched in the ditch:

Alright, what do you say?! Let's make one of these lovelies together!

Fabric Requirements:

Background: 1/2 yard (includes pillow backing)
1/4 yard of multi dot (for border)
1/4 yard cuts of various Little Joys prints
2 yards of red ric rac
14" pillow form

Cutting:

From background:
8 - 3" squares

From various prints:
8 - 3" squares
8 - 2 7/8"

From Multi-dot:
2 - 3" x 10.5" strips
2 - 3" x 15.5" strips

Step 1: Making the pinwheels:

Take 1- 3" background piece and 1-  3" print and place them right sides together.  Sew around the entire perimeter with a 1/4" seam.  Then cut in quarters diagonally.  Press open.  You should have 4 - half square triangles.

Step 2: Sew your half square triangles into the pinwheel block.  Pinwheel block should measure about 2 7/8" - you can trim down to 2.5" if you need to. (You will just need to adjust border strip lengths)

Step 3: Alternate solid squares and pinwheel blocks in a 4 x 4 format and sew together.

Step 4: Take your border strips right side up, and sew your ric rac onto the side of each border strip, use a scant 1/4" seam.

Step 5: Now take your pinwheel top and add the top and bottom border on right sides together, and press. Then add your left and right side on to the left and right side.

Step 6: Now use THIS tutorial to make your top into a pillow!

I hope you enjoy making this pillow as much as I did! I can't wait to display it for Christmas! :)

Talk to you soon,

THank you! I love your pillow! This is my favorite Christmas fabríc ever and I do think I will be making your pillow with it now. I was originally thinking of a wall hanging, but I really like the pillow idea now 😀

I love your pillow but just can't bring myself to do Christmas yet. I should then I wouldn't get behind this winter. I love pinwheels so much. I'm thinking pinks and purples-my favorite colors. Thanks for sharing
