Christmas Tree Mug Rug {Free Pattern}

Hi there! I hope you all had a great weekend!  I had a fantastic weekend! My Christmas came early this year!

Via Instagram
I am the proud new owner of Betty.  My new Bernina! Yes, I've already named her.  My husband said that he hasn't seen me this happy since the birth of your last child! ;)  I was pretty darn happy when I walked out of the Bernina shop with my new sewing machine.   I have already sewn an entire quilt top on Betty, and she sews like a dream!  I couldn't be happier with her, and I'm sure we will be spending a lot of quality time together for the next several years!

Now, let's get to this fun tutorial I am going to share with you today! I actually sewed up this darling Mug Rug months ago, and sort of forgot about it!  I was cleaning out my sewing room, and realized I never shared this little lovely with you guys!  So today, I am going to share how I made this simple, and cute mug rug and give you the free downloadable pattern.

Supplies:
1 Charm Pack
1 - 7.5" x 8.5" piece of background fabric (white)
2 - 2" x width of fabric strips (for binding)
1 - 10" x 12" piece of fabric for backing
Fusible Web
Coordinating thread

Step 1: Print out pattern and cut out pattern pieces.

Step 2: Out of charm pack, cut out 8 - 2.5" squares.  Sew squares together in a 2 x 8 layout.

Step 3: Pick out fabrics you want for your tree. Iron on the fusible web (according to package directions) onto the pieces you will use for your tree.  Trace pattern pieces onto fabric and then cut out pieces.

Step 4:  Layout your tree onto your background fabric.  Iron them in place.

Step 5: Sew your background piece to your patchwork piece.

Step 6: Now it's time to quilt your mug rug.  Place your backing right side down, batting in the middle and the top right side up.  Put a few pins in and quilt with your preferred method.  On mine,  I just outlined the pieces of the tree and star, and then straight lines around the squares.

Step 7: Trim off excess batting and backing and then bind your mug rug! You can find our binding tutorial here.

And that's it! These cute little things are so fun to whip up and would make really cute gifts for friends, neighbors, or family!

Thus is so pretty. Can you estimate yardage without using charm pack?
