Hi there! I hope you all had a good Halloween weekend! My kids had so much fun dressing up and trick or treating. It was the perfect temperature, and the kids got enough candy to last them until Christmas! I have already picked out all the Kit-Kat's and Almond Joy's, I also plan on weeding out some of the other chocolate and stashing it in my sewing room for later. ;)
Today I have a fun tutorial to share with you guys! This Makeup Brush Roll-up is so functional, and a cute addition to your makeup bag! This would make a fun gift or stocking stuffer for Christmas this year. It doesn't take much time to whip these up, and they don't take up a lot of fabric either! So it's kind of a win-win!
Fabrics used in this makeup brush roll-up are from the Modern Lace Collection |
Let's make one!
Supplies:
1 - 10" x 15" piece of fabric and interfacing for the exterior
1 - 10" x 15" piece of fabric and interfacing for pocket
1 - 10" x 15" piece of fabric and interfacing for interior
2 - 2.5" x width of fabric strips for binding
40" of ribbon
coordinating thread
Step 1: Cut out and line all of your pieces with interfacing EXCEPT binding.
Step 3: Pin your pocket piece to your interior piece so that the raw edge is at the bottom. Mark some lines where you will make your pockets. I did some lines that were 2" apart, but for most of them I did 1" apart--this is sort of up to you, and how many pockets you want to make! Once you have your lines marked, sew from the top of the pocket to the bottom of the pocket piece on your marked lines, backstitching at the top and bottom of each line.
Step 4: Now you will sew your exterior piece and interior pieces together. Place your exterior piece RIGHT side DOWN. Then place your interior piece right side up. You will pin all around the edges, then stitch a 1/4" all the way around.
Step 5: Now you will attach your ribbon. Fold your ribbon in half, and place the folded edge on the left edge of your interior piece. Stitch it on using a 1/4" stay stitch, make sure you go back and forth a few times to secure it!
Step 6: Finish the edges. You will bind this like you would bind a quilt. I have a complete binding tutorial here. If you would rather use bias tape to finish the edges you can certainly do that as well.
And that's it my friends! A quick and easy makeup Brush Roll-up that is not only cute, it's pretty darn functional too!
I think I'll make a few more of these for gifts this year!
Talk to you soon,

Very nice! I think I will try these for Christmas gifts too!
Great idea and terrific tutorial - many thanks.
I found this tutorial this morning and have made it this afternoon. It's a great size and looks great. It was my first time binding and I used your tutorial for that too which was extremely handy. Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing such a terrific project. I stitched one as directed for make-up then modified a second into a sewing/quilting kit; one pocket a wee bit wider to accommodate a rotor cutter plus an additional tie to the top edge for securing scissor handles.
