I have a current obsession with Dresden's! And you already know I have a slightly unhealthy relationship with pillows! So what better way to combine the two! :)
If you've never made a Dresden before, this is the perfect project to start with! It's just made with one dresden plate, so it's not overwhelming at all! The other great thing about this project is that it's pre-cut friendly. I used a charm pack to make my Dresden, so that makes it even more convenient!
I love how my little pillow turned it! The fabric in this pillow, just makes me happy! Ambleside is such a fun collection of soft tones and florals. I added quite a bit of yardage to my stash of this collection because there are so many great stash prints in here! I especially love the gingham in this collection! :) You can never have too much gingham in my opinion!
Alright, what do you say?! Let's get started!
Supplies:
1/2 yard of background fabric
1 charm pack (Ambleside HERE)
Dresden Ruler HERE

Step 1: Cut out your dresden pieces, using your template. When using a charm square, you can get two pieces out of one charm. Line the 5" mark at the top of the charm and cut out:
Step 2: Cut out 20 dresden blade for one dresden fan:
Step 3: Fold in half right sides together and sew a 1/4" seam at the top:
Step 4: Turn right side out and press:
This is what the back looks like:
Step 5: Place two blades right sides together
Step 6: Press! I like to press my seams open on these:
Keep sewing the blades together until you sew 20 of them together:
Step 7: Pin onto a 15" x 15" piece of background fabric, and then sew along the edge of the entire dresden plate.
Step 8: Now it's time to add the circle! You can make your circle as big as you'd like. I made mine just bigger than the whole in the middle. I just found something circular that was slightly bigger and made a template. Use some fusible web to appliqué it onto your pillow. Stitch around the circle to secure.
Step 9: Make it into a pillow! Download pillow instructions HERE!
Now that I have a pillow, I think I need a quilt made out of this fabric! ;)
Talk to you soon,

I like, I like!
This is so pretty. I love Ambleside also! :)
I had already planned on making a Dresden plate quilt with this fabric line (have already purchased charm packs) and now know what one Dresden will look like. :) It is very pretty fabric and I think you should make a quilt to go along with your pillow. Thanks for sharing!
After seeing the cute Dresden pillow on Carried Away Quilting's blog, I came right over to check out your tutorial. Going to give this a try! Thanks for the directions, Pam
