Peppermint Twist Table Runner

Hi there! Jayne is here to share a lovely table runner with us today!  I just loved her Halloween version of this runner - so we thought it would be great to share a Christmas version of it as well! :)

It's the time of the year to deck the halls, walls, table and tree!  Bring out the old, and maybe add a few new festive touches!
Today I'm going to share my Peppermint Twist Table Runner, and an added bonus!  My name is Jayne and I blog at Twiggy & Opal.  Feel free to pop over for a visit!  I tend to take things in the modern direction with twists and turns along the way!
I'm so excited to share this tutorial with you today that it makes me want to 'twist & shout'!!

Finished Runner:  14" x 32 1/2"
Fabric Requirements:
6 - Assorted Prints (Wrapped Candy)
1/8 yard - Red (Inside Border)
1/2 yard - White (Background, Outside Border)
You will also need:
1/4 yard - Binding (2 1/4" binding)
1/2 yard - Backing
16" x 34" Batting
Cutting:
From each of the 6 prints cut the following:
1 - 3 3/4" Square
2 - 1 3/4" Squares
White Background Fabric:
26 - 3 3/4" Squares
12 - 1 3/4" Squares
Red Inside Border:
2 - 1 1/2" x 28" Strips
2 - 1 1/2" x 11 1/4" Stripes
White Outside Border:
2 - 2 1/4" x 30" Strips
2 - 2 1/4" x 14 1/2" Strips
Step 1:  For each of the 3 3/4" print blocks you will need (2) 1 3/4" white squares. Mark the wrong side of the small squares with a diagonal line.  Stitch along the line using 1/4" seams. Trim the corners 1/4" from the stitching. Press.
Step 2:  Mark each of the (12) 1 3/4" print blocks diagonally, stitch (1) print block on (12) of the white 3 3/4" blocks.  Trim.  Press.
You will end up with a stack like this!
Step 3:  Arrange your blocks following this layout.  Make sure your wrapper ends match with the center candy prints.
Step 4:  Sew each row of blocks together, and press seams.  I like to press my seams in opposite directions.  This way they nest together and make lining up the points much easier.
Step 5:  Now let's sew the rows together!  Match up the seams being careful that the wrapper ends line up with the candy, pin.  Sew each row together.  Press.

Once all the rows are together, you will end up with one long piece.
Step 6:  Trim the panel.  Line up your ruler along each side.  Trim.  You will want to keep a 1/4" seam allowance so the points don't get lost.  Just like this!
Step 7:  Finish the border.  For the inside border, sew (1) 1 1/2" x 28" red border strip to each side.  Press.  And, (1) 1 1/2" x 11 1/4" strip to the top and bottom.  Press.
Finish the outside border by sewing (1) 2 1/4" x 30" white border strip to each side.  Press. And, (1) 2 1/4" x 14 1/2" to the top and the bottom.  Press.
Baste.  Quilt and sew on the binding!  You can easily make this runner longer or wider!  Add more candy blocks or make wider borders.
BONUS CANDY COASTERS!

To complete the Holiday table, a set of coasters may just be the answer!
I couldn't resist making a mini version of the wrapped candy and thought coasters would be the way to go!
Grab your scraps and let's get to it! Finished Coaster: 5 1/2"  Cutting: (for ONE coaster) Print:   1 - 2 1/4" Square 2 - 1 1/4" Squares White Background Fabric: 2 - 2 1/4" Square 8 - 1 1/4" Squares
The corner's are the same method used in the table runner.   Step 1:  Sew (2) white 1 1/4" squares to the print 2 1/4" square.  Trim.  Press. Step 2:  Sew (1) print 1 1/4" square on (2) 2 1/4" white squares.  Trim.  Press. Step 3:  Layout your blocks.  Sew each row together using 1/4" seams.
Step 4:  Following the diagram below, sew each row together and press seams.  The seams will nest together.
Baste, quilt, bind!
There you have it!  A fantastic way to bring Holiday Cheer to your table!  I hope you enjoy making this project as much as I did!  Happy decorating!

I want to thank Jayne for her awesome tutorial! I thought it would be fun to share a fun Peppermint Cookie recipe to go along with Jayne's festive runner!  I found this on Pinterest from The Girl Inspired.
Don't these look delicious! I am definitely going to try these out this Holiday Season!
